AtoZChallenge 2020
Greetings Lovelies, I hope you are safe and well in these troubling times. 💖 For this year's AtoZ I am introducing my new podcast and eBooks, with character intros, places and themes from The Manor. The episodes go out every Tuesday so look up E, L, R & X, or just check out the podcast & book pages.
Here we are at letter H and while I decided on this before everyone was working from home, I find it rather appropriate for right about now.
H is for Home
Home |
While the Manor is a place of buisness, it is first and foremost a home. Those under The Manor's protection do not simply work there, they live there, and Lucy makes a point to be sure that everyone has their own space.
Of course some have more space than others, but some have been their longer or require it, and certain rooms have special facilities.
For example, the old stable block is divided into two. At one end there is a salt water pool, specifically built for May, the Manor's head of security and a member of the merfolk, along with rooms for her, which she shares with Gerry, and others for Tom, another of the merfolk and May's surrogate son. The other end is mostly one large room divided by thin walls with curtains over the front of each divided space. This is where the werewolves live, each having their own space, but doing my better living side by side.
Other residents may have special blinds, or sound deadening additions etc.
No matter their species or origins, Lucy makes sure her family have everything they need and that they feel The Manor is their home.
Please do comment below and link me to your AtoZ posts if you are taking part 💖. If you don't know what to say feel free to use to question below for inspiration, but don't feel you have to answer it.
Q. Are you a home body, a nomad, or a bit of both? Even if you are a nomad, does it make you feel better to have a home to go back to?
For me I am a complete home body. I dislike travelling (even if I enjoy places once I arrive) and I feel much more comfortable in my own space.
My other self (Natasha Duncan-Drake) is also taking part in this years AtoZChallenge over at Tasha's Thinkings. Her theme is Vampire Drabbles (100 word stories). H is for Hunter

I like how the Manor is also a home for those who work there. I'm like you: a true home body :-)
ReplyDeleteAn A-Z of Faerie: Grim
Thank you. I believe that is why I enjoy writing about places people can feel at home in, because that is something I look for myself.
DeleteHave you ever thought about turning this into a forum-based RPG setting? Because the more I read about this place the more I like it :)
ReplyDeleteThe Multicolored Diary
Thank you. And no, I haven't. Honestly I would not have the first inkling of how to do it. I have only ever LARPed and that only a couple of times.
DeleteI wrote my dissertation on them :D It's role-laying, but in writing, with everyone taking turns and bringing their own characters. This just reminded me of forum games because they usually provide a sandbox setting for players to interact in. And it's a really nice setting :D
DeleteI love being at home. It's my happy place, my unwind spot, my sacred space.
ReplyDeleteDoing chores at home... Well, 'love' is not quite what I feel about that. Lol. But even if I'm just doing housework, I still love being in my house. :)
Home-based with dreams of traveling is where I'm at.
