AtoZChallenge 2020
Greetings Lovelies, wishing you good health and peace amidst the stressful things going on in the world at the moment. Today we have the letter I. For this year's AtoZ I am introducing my new podcast and eBooks, with character intros, places and themes from The Manor. The episodes go out every Tuesday so look up E, L, R & X, or just check out the podcast & book pages.
I is for Immortal
Not all supernatural creatures are immune to time, many are long lived, some very much so, but there are those who are actually immortal. This does not mean they are invulnerable, but it does mean that the decades and centuries have no effect on them.
Lucy is one of these immortals, and she believes that with the possibility of infinite time comes a responsibility to those around her. She knows she is powerful and in a position to help, so that is what she tries to do. The Manor is one of the ways she chooses to bring about this help, although it is not the only way.
Although immortality seems like a dream, it can also be a burden. Watching friends die, even the very long lived ones, without being able to do anything about it. For some immortals they can make more of their kind, at least from humans, but that is not often an option.
And, of course there is the issue of moving unseen through the generations, especially with modern technology and the big brother bureacracy.
And the issues of living so long that civilisations rise and fall. Moving from one to the other, maintaining living standards, staying current.
However, with the stresses there are the joys. Seeing things come to fruition over generations. Watching the world change, hopefully for the better. Having time to learn and to improve far beyond a mortal lifetime. Being part of something much greater than oneself.
Immortality is a balancing act with highs and lows. Some immortals distance themselves from everything mortal to prevent pain in their lives, others, leap into it, letting the brief and transitory fire them to different thoughts and feelings.
Thank you for reading today. 😄

Q. If you were immortal, what would you do?
I think I would want to learn everything I could, trying to become a better version of me - at least I hope I would.
My other self (Natasha Duncan-Drake) is also taking part in this years AtoZChallenge over at Tasha's Thinkings. Her theme is Vampire Drabbles (100 word stories). I is for Immortality

If I was immortal I would live in places. Spend a lifetime here, spend a lifetime there... it is much better than traveling for a week or even a year...

I agree with Tarka, traveling to see the whole world and how other cultures live close up would be fantastic.
ReplyDeleteGood take on immortality.
