Hello Lovelies, I hope today finds you well. If not, then I wish you a speedy recovery or the best day you can have. We've made it all the way to R - such a versatile letter. I've always like R, we can do so much with it and it goes anywhere in a word.

For this year's AtoZ I am introducing my new podcast and eBooks, with character intros, places and themes from The Manor. The episodes go out every Tuesday so look up E, L, R & X, or just check out the podcast & book pages.

R is for Ritual & Episode 3

Magic is a complex thing. Some magic is achieved simply by will and core power, other magic requires rituals to focus and create what is required.

The Manor has very powerful and complex magic protecting it which is created using a complex ritual known only to Lucy. She designed it with the knowledge passed on to her from her father, who was once a powerful magic user himself. It requires very specific ingredients that can be hard to find and is designed specifically to take advantage of her particular talents.

Luckily, Lucy only has to perform it once every fifty years, which is sooner than the magic would run out, but she likes to make sure the protection is always at full strength. This means she has plenty of time to prepare for each recasting.

Of course, if this schedule is changed for any reason, and preparations have to be done hurriedly, it is a very difficult ritual to set up. Something Lucy knows is a problem, but there is nothing she can do to change it.

Q. If you had to design a ritual that used your core strengths, what would they be?

My strengths lie in my creativity and my voice, so I would design my ritual around using both of those at the heart of it.
